The Google Maps Agent – Local recommendations right in the chat

Hotel guests don’t just ask about check-in times and Wi-Fi passwords. They want to know where to get the best breakfast nearby, how to get to the train station, or whether there’s a dog park within walking distance. That’s exactly why we built the Google Maps Agent.

What can DialogShift’s Google Maps Agent do?

The agent answers all questions about places and navigation—directly in the chat with your guest:

  • Find specific addresses: Looking for a particular restaurant or museum? The agent finds it and shows the way.
  • Discover nearby places: “Where’s the nearest supermarket?” or “Where can I get a nice vegan meal around here?” The agent searches the surrounding area and suggests relevant options.
  • Retrieve details: Opening hours, whether dogs are allowed, vegetarian options—the agent can provide detailed information about the places it finds.
  • Start navigation: Depending on the request, the AI automatically adds a button to open the location in Google Maps or jump straight into route planning.

Why is it an “agent”?

The term is used a lot right now—but for us, it comes with real substance. An agent differs from a simple chatbot in three ways:

  • It plans: The agent independently determines the steps needed to answer the question.
  • It acts: It actively uses the Google Maps APIs—for search, place details, and route planning.
  • It verifies: Before replying, it validates results and, if needed, iterates until the answer is solid.

If a guest asks, “Where can I get a good breakfast nearby tomorrow morning?”, the agent doesn’t just look up cafés—it also checks opening hours and filters accordingly.
